This is a case study of an exterior renovation project in Machida City, Tokyo.
The work involved replacing the exterior wall siding, covering the coping with metal, and installing a sign!

Originally, it was an izakaya, but after the exterior renovation, it has been transformed for use as our Machida store!
Of course, all work is carried out by our own team!

Exterior Renovation Construction Procedure

Before construction, we will finalize the design after conducting a simulation as shown in the photo below.

Simulation can be performed based on actual building photos.
Once the design is finalized, we will order materials and prepare for construction.

1. Removal and Detachment of Existing Equipment

We will remove and detach equipment that may obstruct the installation of metal siding, such as ventilation fans and air conditioning ducts.

2. Removal of Existing Siding

Once the removal of the existing equipment is complete, we will proceed to remove the existing siding. During this process, we will check and repair the interior.

3. Fabrication of Flashing

After completing the base treatment such as installing the battens, we will fabricate the flashing, including the foundation water-cutting flashing and starter pieces.

What is a starter?

This flashing will serve various roles, including securing the main siding and adjusting for unevenness.

4. Main Construction

We will install the new main body. The metal siding material used this time is the Galstage Shine from Aijii Industry. This is a horizontally installed siding material, which will be applied from the bottom up.

5. Installation of Caps

We will install caps in the gaps between the siding materials.

What is the role of a cap?

These components are installed at the joints with the siding materials and around openings such as window frames, enhancing waterproofing and aesthetics. They protect the metal siding and sealing materials, preventing rainwater from entering the interior of the exterior wall.

Additionally, they also enhance the design aspect.

6. Sealing Treatment

We will apply sealing material in the gaps. This will be particularly done around the sash and joint areas where water is likely to penetrate.

7. Completion

Finally, we will complete the work with cleaning and a final inspection.

Cap Flashing Metal Work

This time, the existing cap flashing was in good condition, so we will install the metal flashing using the roof overlay (cover method) from above!

1. Substrate Adjustment

First, we will perform substrate adjustment. If nails or metal flashing are protruding, there is a risk that the waterproof sheet may tear, so we will process it to make it flat.

2. Waterproof Sheet Installation

We will install the waterproof sheet on top of the substrate! The waterproof sheet used is a modified asphalt roofing material, which is said to have twice the durability of regular asphalt roofing. As a secondary waterproofing measure, if the roofing is solid, there will be no leaks! We will ensure it is firmly adhered to prevent it from blowing away.

3. Installation of Galvalume Steel Cap Flashing

We will cover it with a new Galvalume steel cap and secure it with screws on the sides.

4. Sealing Treatment

We will perform thorough sealing to prevent rain from entering at the joints.

5. Completion

This completes the rooftop cap metal work.

Sign Installation

1. Cutting Sheet Application

We will create a cutting sheet and apply it.

2. Louver Installation & Stainless Steel Cut Letter Sign Installation

Since the main color of the

exterior wall is black, we installed wood grain louvers as an accent! A stainless steel sign will be placed above the wood grain louvers.

3. Lighting Installation and Completion

We installed lighting to illuminate the

sign, and the construction is now complete. The finish is close to the simulation!
