Roof Overlay (Cover Method) Construction Steps
1. Demolition of Existing Ridge and Snow Stops
We will dismantle only the ridge flashing and snow stops that obstruct the overlay work.
The hole in the photo below is for the ventilation ridge.
2. Laying Roofing (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing material used this time is modified asphalt. It is expected to have double the durability of asphalt roofing!
3. Component Processing (Karakusa and Keraba)
We will process and install the keraba and karakusa.
4. Main Construction
After laying the main roofing, we will install the purlins at the ridge and wall edges. This time, we used cedar purlins, but there are also purlins made of corrosion-resistant resin.
5. Ridge Cap Processing
We will process and install the ridge caps and ventilation ridges. We will firmly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.
For the wall edges, we will process and install a component called rain stop metal.
6. Cleaning
We will remove footprints and any debris that has fallen around the house and in the rain gutters, and do a thorough cleaning.
We strive to make the area cleaner after the construction than it was before!

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost intact and placing a new roof on top of it, effectively covering it.
Literally, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roofing is layered, it is also referred to as “overlapping roofing.”
Advantages of the Overlay Method
Since the “new roof” is placed over the “existing roof,” demolition work is almost unnecessary, meaning that very little waste is generated.
