Consultation Details

This time, we received a consultation through our website stating, “I have a leak and would like you to take a look.”

The existing roofing material is Galtect, and it was renovated using the roof overlay (cover method) 10 years ago.
The cause of the leak was due to poor workmanship at the ridge by the contractor who performed the work 10 years ago!

Roof Overlay Construction Procedure in Machida City

We will provide a detailed introduction to the construction site along with actual case studies of roof overlays (leak repairs) conducted in Machida City!

1. Existing ridge metal dismantling

We will dismantle unnecessary parts (ridge flashing) for the roof re-roofing!The durability of wooden purlins is about 10 to 15 years. This purlin was absorbing rainwater and had started to rot.Once the durability period is exceeded, corrosion and discoloration occur, leading to the detachment and scattering of the ridge flashing.

2. Removal of Existing Roofing Material (Galtect)

Since this construction is a re-roofing, we will remove the existing roofing material without damaging it!A waste board installation or an uplift of the roofing material is necessary at the ridge, but that processing had not been done.

3. Installation of New Sheathing

After removing the existing roofing material, we will process and install new sheathing (structural plywood) to fit the dimensions!

4. Installation of Roofing (Waterproof Sheet)

Next, we will install the waterproof sheet!

The roofing material used is Tajima Roofing / Tadi Self!
It is made of a delayed adhesive modified asphalt roofing material, which is said to have double the durability of regular asphalt roofing.
As a primary waterproofing measure, if the roofing is properly installed, there will be no leaks!
We will ensure it is securely attached to prevent it from blowing away. Since it is an adhesive roofing sheet, high waterproofing performance can also be expected!

5. Fabrication of Accessories (Arabesque) and Installation of Purlins

Before the main roofing work, we will fabricate accessories such as arabesques and proceed with the installation!
The accessories used are genuine Galtect accessories made of SGL copper plate!
The purlins at the ridge are made of resin. Unlike wooden purlins, resin purlins do not corrode. The roofing materials will be fixed to these purlins.

6. Main Construction (Aijii Industry / Super Galtect)

After the fabrication of the accessories, we will return the existing Galtect roofing to the ridge!
Once the roofing is completed up to the ridge, we will install a material called a “nail board” on top of the purlins, which is necessary for fixing the ridge metal. There are types of nail boards made of cedar and resin, and this time we used a resin type!
The resin type is expected to have 2 to 3 times the durability of the cedar type!

7. Processing of Ridge Metal and Sealing at Various Locations

Next, we will process the ridge metal and install waterproof sealant to prevent rainwater intrusion. We will firmly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.
The nails and screws used for fixing are made of stainless steel, which is resistant to rust!

8. Cleaning

We will clean up the debris that has fallen on the balcony and rain gutters. We will thoroughly remove items like nails and metal scraps that could lead to injuries. Additionally, we will wipe away any footprints left on the roof to ensure it looks clean. We have also confirmed that the leak has been successfully stopped!

The existing roofing material this time is Galtect from Aijii Industry.
Currently, Galtect has been upgraded to Super Galtect! The material has changed from Galvalume steel to SGL steel, and it is said that the durability of the coating has increased to about three times longer.
