Common Exterior Features of Daiwa House
Characteristics of buildings constructed by Daiwa House include siding exterior walls (lightweight and highly durable) and tile exterior walls (excellent fire resistance and water resistance).
Among these, “Belsaix” is a high-performance exterior wall made with Daiwa House’s unique technology, excelling in both design and durability.
Due to its excellent durability, caution is necessary when repainting, so we recommend entrusting the work to a contractor experienced with Daiwa House!
Our company can also perform the work, so please contact us.
Main Exterior Materials of Daiwa House
We will introduce the main exterior materials used by Daiwa House.
Belsyx
This is a ceramic-based siding material characterized by its deep design and high durability.
It is a 12mm deep design exterior material. It also has self-cleaning properties.
Our company is capable of exterior painting. When painting, it is necessary to use a special primer with excellent adhesion.
DC Wall
This is a ceramic siding board used in the “xevo” series of lightweight steel houses by Daiwa House. It undergoes autoclave curing (high-temperature, high-pressure steam curing) and is coated with a special inorganic paint called XE Coat M, making it a high-quality ceramic exterior wall material that contributes to reducing changes due to heat and drying, as well as the adhesion of dirt.
Therefore, when painting, it is recommended to apply a dedicated primer with excellent adhesion, followed by a silicone-based, fluorine-based, or inorganic clear paint.
DX Wall
DX Wall is a ceramic siding board similar to the DC Wall used in the “xevo” series of Daiwa House steel houses. The surface of DX Wall is coated with a paint that incorporates a light catalyst called KIRARI+. The light catalyst decomposes organic dirt that adheres to the surface when exposed to ultraviolet light. It features a self-coating function that lifts and removes dirt, resulting in a highly maintainable exterior wall.
Due to the photocatalytic clear coating, repainting with clear materials and the selection of transparent primer materials are not permitted.
Daiwa House Roofs and Rooftops
We will introduce the main roofing materials used by Daiwa House.
The following roofing materials can also be installed by our company when re-roofing or applying roof overlays, so please contact us.
Clay Tile Roof
Clay tiles are roofing materials used in custom homes by Daiwa House.
Clay tiles are commonly seen on the roofs of traditional houses, shrines, and temples.
They are characterized by their high durability due to the manufacturing process that involves firing at high temperatures.
There are also tiles that integrate solar panels.
While they are highly durable, we recommend maintenance such as high-pressure washing and partial repairs (repointing of mortar, resealing).
Lightweight Cement Tile
Lightweight cement tiles are roofing materials used in the design homes of Daiwa House.
Lightweight cement tiles weigh less than half compared to clay tiles.
Due to the incorporation of fibers, lightweight cement tiles are impact-resistant and less prone to cracking.
While they are highly durable, we recommend maintenance such as high-pressure washing and painting.
FRC Tile
This is a cement reinforced with polymer fibers.
By combining traditional cement tiles with polymer resin fibers and lightweight resin aggregates, this tile material achieves strong impact resistance and weight reduction. It boasts over 10 times the impact resistance compared to clay tiles and achieves about 40% weight reduction.
While they are highly durable, we recommend maintenance such as high-pressure washing and painting.
Metal Tile
Metal tiles are made from copper plates or aluminum.
Metal tiles achieve a weight reduction to one-tenth of clay tiles and are excellent in seismic resistance. With the introduction of Galvalume copper plates, they are also highly durable and resistant to rust.
This roofing material is used not only in residential buildings but also in offices, factories, and stores. However, regular maintenance such as painting is necessary.
Colored Slate
Colored slate is made by mixing fibers with cement as the main material and forming it into thin sheets.
Colored slate is a roofing material that is inexpensive, lightweight, and has excellent seismic resistance. However, it lacks waterproofing functionality, which means painting is necessary, and being made of cement, it is prone to cracking. Additionally, its lifespan is short, and its waterproofing ability is lower compared to other roofing materials, so maintenance such as roof painting or roof overlay is required.
Balconies of Daiwa House
The balconies of buildings constructed by Daiwa House often utilize vinyl sheet waterproofing.
Waterproofing work can also be performed by our company, so please contact us.
Vinyl sheet waterproofing is a method that uses waterproof sheets made from polyvinyl chloride as the raw material. Polyvinyl chloride resin is also used in drainage pipes and rain gutters, making it an excellent waterproofing material.
The main renovation methods for vinyl sheet waterproofing are “mechanical fastening method (insulation)” and “adhesive method”. The construction method will vary depending on the degree of deterioration of the existing materials and the points of emphasis.
Joints (Sealing) of Daiwa House
Joints refer to the gaps (joint parts) between building materials.
Joints can allow rainwater and moisture to infiltrate more than the exterior walls, which can adversely affect the entire home.Daiwa House often uses high-durability sealing materials.
Joint work can also be performed by our company, so please contact us.
The sealing materials used in buildings constructed by Daiwa House have a durability of about 30 years.
As for the necessity of maintenance, it is recommended to check every 10 years.
This applies to all siding exterior walls, as leaks can occur from the joint areas.
When performing sealing replacement work, it may be necessary to consult with a specialized contractor. Since the exterior wall materials and siding materials of Daiwa House can be special cases, it is advisable to check the exterior wall materials carefully and request a contractor with the appropriate specialized knowledge.
Points to Consider When Performing Exterior Painting of Daiwa House
When performing exterior painting on buildings of Daiwa House, there are four main points to consider.
1. The siding is thick and has many joints
2. There are wall materials that do not allow paint adhesion
3. There are maintenance-free wall materials that cannot be painted
4. Heat bridge phenomenon after exterior painting
Each point will be explained in detail!!
1. The siding is thick and has many joints
The board materials applied to the exterior walls of the building are called siding. The gaps created when siding is applied are referred to as joints. The most important aspect of siding is the connection points.
Daiwa House’s homes are characterized by thick siding and many joints.
Typically, siding is generally more than 14 millimeters thick, but Daiwa House’s siding can be as thick as 16 millimeters or even 26 millimeters. The increased thickness of the siding enhances fire resistance and soundproofing effects, but when performing sealing work, more sealing material is required, often more than double the usual meter count.
For this type of construction, it is recommended to consult with a contractor who has experience with this work.
2. There are wall materials that do not allow paint adhesion
One of them is thermoplastic resin, which is often used by Daiwa House.
If it is coated, like thermoplastic acrylic resin, applying paint on top can cause issues such as bubbling or peeling. When doing exterior wall painting, it is recommended to check the construction documents to confirm whether thermoplastic acrylic resin has been used.
3. There are maintenance-free exterior materials that cannot be painted
In recent years, many housing manufacturers have adopted maintenance-free wall materials.
Even though it is called maintenance-free, it means that it has high durability and reduces maintenance effort.
The wall material called “Belsyx”, used by Daiwa House, is one of them.
For those who want to stylishly paint the exterior walls regularly as maintenance, it is necessary to check whether such maintenance-free wall materials are used.
4. Heat bridge phenomenon after exterior wall painting
The phenomenon where heat easily passes through steel frames or materials used in wall materials, causing a rapid temperature rise inside during hot periods, is called the heat bridge phenomenon.
Since Daiwa House uses a lot of steel frames, the heat bridge phenomenon can easily cause discoloration and deterioration of the exterior walls, leading customers to feel that there might be “issues” after painting.
While we would like to proceed with construction to prevent such occurrences, it is a phenomenon due to the structure of the wall materials, and there are few cases where painting can solve it. However, thermal insulation paint has the effect of suppressing heat transfer and can alleviate the heat bridge problem.
