If roof painting is done with heat-reflective paint that has a solar reflectance of 50% or more, depending on the municipality, a subsidy of up to 20% may be granted.
The solar reflectance varies by color, with whiter and closer to silver having higher solar reflectance, while the closer to black the lower the reflectance becomes.
Since this is often indicated in the color samples of the paint catalog, it is necessary to check before proceeding with the work.
Exterior wall painting may also be eligible depending on the municipality.
Additionally, the application methods differ by municipality, such as pre-construction and post-construction applications, so caution is required!

This system provides subsidies based on the cost of seismic retrofitting, according to the household’s tax classification, with certain subsidy limits.
1）Eligible for Subsidy
・Constructed with building confirmation obtained before the end of May 1981
・Wooden individual houses (single-family homes, apartment buildings, row houses, mixed-use buildings) with a conventional frame of two stories or less
・Houses that, based on the results of seismic diagnosis, were determined to have a score (upper structure evaluation score, etc.) of less than 1.0
・Owned or inhabited by the owner, spouse, or relatives within the first degree, etc.
2）Limit Amount
General households: 250,000 to 1,000,000 yen
Non-taxable households: 950,000 to 1,400,000 yen

About Earthquake-Resistant Roof Renovations
Under the wooden house earthquake resistance renovation subsidy system, renovation work that achieves a score of 1.0 or higher through seismic diagnosis, such as foundation reinforcement, bracing (shear walls) reinforcement, and roof replacement for weight reduction, is eligible for subsidies if applicable!
The seismic performance of a house is greatly influenced by the weight of the building, so lightening the roof can improve seismic resistance.
For example, galvalume steel sheets and SGL steel sheets are lightweight yet highly durable, helping to mitigate the effects of shaking during an earthquake!
However, not all buildings that use heavy tiles or roofing materials have low seismic performance. Buildings constructed after the 1981 seismic standard revision have sufficient strength incorporated into the structure to support tiled roofs!
Therefore, in buildings built to the new standards, the risk of collapse due to tiled roofs is very low, and for houses built under the old seismic standards, preemptive measures are recommended, so it is important to know whether your house is built to the old or new seismic standards. These circumstances can vary as well.
Thus, in buildings with poor balance between strength and weight due to old seismic standards, roof lightweight renovation can be effective.
However, it is not uncommon for tiled roofs to collapse in areas affected by earthquakes, so checking and maintaining the condition of tiled roofs is important for any house.
