This time, we will showcase a case of interior renovation in Minami-ku, Yokohama, not an exterior renovation.
For the interior renovation, we carried out a renovation of the flooring with floor tile overlay!

Interior & Flooring Overlay Construction Steps

1. Demolition of Existing Flooring

The customer this time reported that the floor near the kitchen’s underfloor storage was loose and expressed concerns about termites.

Upon inspection, we found no termite issues, but it turned out that there was originally supposed to be another layer of underlayment, and the flooring had been installed directly, leading to deterioration over time and weakening of the floor.

The customer mentioned that they were not using the underfloor storage, so we will seal off that area.

We will only demolish the existing flooring and framework in the underfloor storage area! We will carefully remove it to avoid damaging the walls. We will also clean up any debris that comes out during the removal process.

2. Underlayment Reinforcement

Next, we will assemble the joists (framework) and reinforce them. The ends will be slightly separated from the wall to prevent creaking sounds.

With the joists in place, the load applied to the floor (flooring) is distributed, enhancing safety.

3. Insulation and Base Layer Installation

Next, we will lay down the insulation material.

 

4. Base Layer Adjustment

This is an important task to eliminate any unevenness and improve the finish before installing the finishing materials (flooring).

If the flooring is installed while there are still bumps and gaps in the base layer, it can lead to issues such as lifting or sinking of the flooring, so we proceed with caution.

Finishing Material Installation

Next, we will lay the flooring on top of the base layer. We will make fine adjustments in size and align the height during installation, completing the flooring.

Since this renovation was only for the kitchen space, we installed trim materials at the door area and worked to keep the height differences as flat as possible.

For all floors except the underfloor storage, we performed overlay installation after base layer adjustment!

The flooring material used this time is Toli’s 【Floor Tile PMT3226】!
