Background to the Construction

After being pointed out by a passing contractor, we received an inquiry regarding concerns about joint cuts and exterior wall deterioration. We proposed replacing the joint sealing material and applying a clear coat to the exterior wall siding.

Exterior Wall Painting Construction Procedure

1. High-Pressure Washing

We thoroughly remove dirt and moss from the exterior walls with high-pressure washing! If any dirt remains, it can affect the adhesion and lifespan of the paint, so we wash carefully. We also provide washing for the exterior and concrete areas as a complimentary service!

2. Protection of Surrounding Areas

Using masking tape, blue sheets, and polymer masks, we protect areas that will not be painted, such as windows, sashes, and floors. This is a very important task in the painting process! If protection is neglected, gaps can form, allowing paint to seep in or resulting in uneven lines.

3. First Coat of Clear Paint

In order to bring out the performance of the paint, it is an important process for achieving a beautiful finish and eliminating uneven application! This time, we will be using clear paint, so unlike regular exterior wall painting, we will only apply the finishing paint twice, and there will be no intermediate coating process.

4. Second Coat of Clear Paint

This will be the finishing of the exterior wall painting. We will consciously work to ensure that there are no uneven spots or missed areas, resulting in a beautiful finish! The paint used is Kikusui Chemical/Royal Clear!
Royal Clear is a clear paint that is compatible with photocatalytic siding (difficult-to-adhere siding).

Joint Replacement Work Procedure

1. Removal of Existing Sealant

The existing sealing material will be removed using a cutter or similar tool.
This is referred to as sealing, caulking, or joints. It is a critical area that can easily lead to water leaks and cause cracking or lifting of the siding. Cracks and peeling are signs of deterioration!

2. Applying Masking Tape

Check the position to apply the tape and carefully attach it to avoid embedding it into the surface.

3. Applying Primer

Apply the primer with a brush or similar tool, ensuring there are no missed spots.

4. Filling with Sealing Material

Place the nozzle of the caulking gun against the bottom of the joint and fill it sufficiently. The caulking material used is Auto Chemical / Auton Exceed.
Auton Exceed has a durability of about 3 times that of regular caulking materials (urethane, modified silicone, etc.). The expected durability is about 30 years. The cost will be about 50,000 to 100,000 yen higher for a building with a total floor area of 30 tsubo.

5. Finishing with a Spatula

Press firmly with a spatula that matches the width of the joint and finish it smoothly.

6. Removing Masking Tape

Quickly remove the masking tape after finishing. That concludes the process.
