In homes, “vinyl wallpaper” is widely used due to its rich variety of designs and ease of maintenance.
There are various designs available, not only simple wallpaper in white and beige but also wood grain, stone, concrete, and brick patterns.

When to Replace Wallpaper
The timing for wallpaper replacement depends on usage and the room’s environment, but a general guideline is around 10 to 15 years.
However, areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and toilets, as well as rooms with strong sunlight or where smoking occurs, may deteriorate faster than typical rooms.
If you notice the following symptoms, it is time to consider replacing the wallpaper.
・Wallpaper stains or yellowing are noticeable
・The seams of the wallpaper are opening
・The wallpaper is peeling or lifting
・Cracks or tears are present
・You want to change the atmosphere of the room and more
If peeling, lifting, or seam openings occur despite a short time since installation, you may be eligible for a warranty from the construction company.
Before requesting paid repairs, it is recommended to check the warranty and contract documents and consult the company that performed the work.
*If the cause is building movement, substrate movement, condensation, water leaks, excessive humidity, etc., repairs other than wallpaper installation may be necessary.

Before Replacing Your Wallpaper
Here are three key points to consider for wallpaper replacement work!
1.Check the Substrate
To achieve a beautiful finish with the wallpaper, the substrate beneath it, such as gypsum board or plywood, is crucial.
When removing the existing wallpaper, the following issues may be discovered.
・Cracks in the gypsum board
・Stains from leaks or condensation
・Corrosion of the gypsum board
・Mold growth
・Cracks at seams due to building movement
If there are minor bumps or holes, we will smooth them out with putty before applying the wallpaper.
In cases of corrosion in the base material or significant damage, partial replacement of the gypsum board or plywood may be necessary.
Additionally, if mold has developed due to leaks, water intrusion, or condensation, simply replacing the wallpaper without addressing the underlying cause may lead to the same symptoms occurring again.
It is important to check the condition of the underlying material and repair the cause before replacing the wallpaper.
2.Choose Wallpaper for Renovation
After removing the existing wallpaper, remnants of the old wallpaper backing, adhesive, and minor bumps may remain on the base material.
Therefore, in renovations, thicker wallpaper with texture tends to hide the condition of the base material better than thin, flat wallpaper, making it easier to achieve a clean finish.
In particular, solid-colored wallpaper in dark shades, glossy wallpaper, and flat-surfaced wallpaper may make the bumps and seams of the base material more noticeable, so care should be taken when selecting products.
Moreover, the impression of color and pattern may differ when viewed on a small catalog sample compared to when it is applied to an entire wall.
3. Decide Which Areas to Replace
Even if only a part of the wallpaper is stained or torn, a partial replacement may highlight color differences with the surrounding area.
Even if the same product number of wallpaper is available, the existing wallpaper may have changed color due to sun exposure, dirt, and aging, so it may not match the new wallpaper exactly.
Additionally, if the existing wallpaper has been discontinued, it may not be possible to obtain the same product.
To achieve a clean finish, it is recommended to replace the wallpaper from corner to corner of the wall or to cover the entire wall rather than doing partial work at the seams.
