Roof Overlay (Cover Method) Construction Steps
1. Existing Ridge and Snow Stops Demolition
We will only dismantle the ridge metal and snow stops that obstruct the overlay work.
2. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing material used this time is modified asphalt. You can expect double the durability of asphalt roofing!
3. Fabrication of Accessories (Karakusa, Keraba, Valley)
We will process and install the keraba, karakusa, and valley metal sheets.
4. Chimney Metal Fabrication
We will begin the metal fabrication for the chimney.
We will process the metal to ensure that rainwater is properly drained away from the main body.
5. Main Body Construction
Once the main body is completed, we will install the purlins at the ridge and wall edges.
This time, we used cedar purlins, but there are also purlins made of corrosion-resistant resin.
6. Ridge Metal and Rain Guard Metal Fabrication
We will process and install the ridge metal and ventilation ridge. We will apply sealing thoroughly on the inside of the joints.
For the wall edges, we will process and install a component called rain guard metal. We will also apply sealing thoroughly.
7. Cleaning
We will remove footprints that inevitably appear and clean up any debris that has fallen around the house or inside the rain gutters.
We strive to ensure that the area is cleaner after the work than it was before!

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost as it is and placing a new roof on top of it, effectively covering it.
Literally, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roof is laid on top of the existing one, it is also referred to as “overlapping roofing.”
Advantages of the Overlay Method
Since a “new roof” is placed over the “current roof,” demolition work is almost unnecessary, meaning that very little waste material is generated.
This is the biggest feature and leads to various advantages.
