Hello!
I am Yamanaka from Kakeru Koumuten Co., Ltd., a specialist in roofing, exterior painting, and exterior renovations located in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture!
This is a case study of a roof renovation project in Konan-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The work involved a roof overlay (cover method) using Super Galtect!
We implemented leak prevention measures through the roof overlay!
This project was requested by our long-time partner, S Company, which specializes in renovations!
Thank you very much for choosing Kakeru Koumuten Co., Ltd. from among many contractors.
Roof Overlay Construction Steps
1. Removal of Existing Ridge and Snow Stops
We will remove only the ridge flashing and snow stops that obstruct the overlay work.

2. Installation of Roofing (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing used this time is modified asphalt. It offers double the durability of standard asphalt roofing!

3. Fabrication of Accessories (Karakusa and Keraba)
We will process and install the keraba and karakusa.

4. Main Construction
Once the main body is covered, we install a ridge board. This time, we used a cedar ridge board, but there are also resin ridge boards that are resistant to corrosion.
5. Ridge Metal Processing
We process and install the ridge metal. We thoroughly apply sealing on the inside of the joints. For the wall edges, we use a component called rain stop metal for installation.

6. Cleaning
We clean up footprints that inevitably get on the roofing materials and around the house.

The construction is now complete!
The roofing material used is the Super Galtect from Aijii Industry.
The Super Galtect comes with a 15-year paint warranty and a 25-year hole warranty from the manufacturer. We also provide a 10-year construction warranty!
Galtect is made of SGL steel plate, which is also resistant to rust.
SGL steel plate has higher durability than Galvalume steel plate!
Insulation material is tightly applied from edge to edge of the roofing material, creating a metal plate that integrates steel plate and insulation. When installed, insulation is applied even to the parts where the roofing materials overlap, and the surface is coated with high heat-reflective paint, allowing for a cool summer and warm winter. It has higher insulation properties than tiles!
Additionally, it has soundproofing properties, reducing the sound of rain.
Moreover, it is lightweight compared to other roofing materials, which reduces the sway during earthquakes, making it a good earthquake countermeasure.
It excels in finish, durability, insulation, soundproofing, and wind resistance, and among our construction achievements, Aijii Industry’s Super Galtect is the most popular and highly regarded!

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost as it is and placing a new roof on top of it, effectively covering it. As the name suggests, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roof is laid over another, it is also referred to as “overlapping roofing.”
Benefits of the Roof Overlay Method
Since we place a “new roof” over the “current roof,” demolition work is almost unnecessary, meaning that very little waste is generated. This is the main feature and leads to various benefits.
The only parts that require demolition and waste disposal are the ridge cap, so compared to complete roof replacement, the cost is lower. In 2004, regulations regarding the concentration of asbestos in raw materials were changed (for more details, please visit the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website). Some building materials used in structures constructed before 2004 contain asbestos. Asbestos-containing materials are difficult to demolish due to their high environmental impact, resulting in high costs for both demolition and waste disposal. The roof overlay method, which generates almost no waste, is ideal for such roofs.
Some may wonder, “Is it safe to live in a building that uses asbestos-containing materials?” Rest assured, as long as there is no destruction or crushing, it will not disperse into the air. If you are unsure about the type of roof on your home, please consult us.
Additionally, the construction can be completed in a shorter time frame compared to painting or complete roof replacement. A shorter construction period means lower labor costs, which in turn reduces expenses. The psychological anxiety of having to live in an unusual environment is also minimized. When scaffolding is erected, you may experience inconveniences such as difficulty entering and exiting or opening windows. Being able to return to your normal life in a short period is a significant advantage.
Our company specializes in roofing work, and the roof overlay method is the most frequently performed type of work we undertake. We are very grateful that we consistently have ongoing projects for roof overlay work.
