This is a record of our roof ridge cap replacement project in Asao-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture!
The ridge cap is the metal covering that protects areas of the roof where roofing materials cannot be laid, such as at the peak of the roof.
It is susceptible to damage from wind and can cause leaks.

Ridge Cap Replacement Procedure
1. Existing ridge dismantling
We will remove the old ridge cap and the internal wooden batten. Care will be taken not to break the roofing material during this process.
This time, it was quite corroded.
We recommend replacing the internal wooden batten every 10 to 15 years.
Once the ridge cap is removed, there is a batten inside.
2. Installing a new batten
We will install a new batten. There are also resin battens available, which are less prone to corrosion (such as Tough Mock and Eco Lumber).
This time, at the request to keep costs down, we used a cedar batten!
3. Sealing the ridge cap joints
We will apply sealing on the inside of the overlaps to enhance strength and waterproofing.
4. Installing the new ridge cap
We will process and install the ends and joints.
5. Clean up and complete!
That’s all!
While checking the weather forecast during the work, it showed rain in the evening, so we quickly increased the number of workers and managed to complete the job before the rain started! Phew!
Exterior work and renovations are inevitably affected by the weather, so we sometimes cause inconvenience to our customers with schedule changes…
This time, the leak prevention work was a ridge cap project!
Given the condition, a roof overlay would have been appropriate, but since they were considering demolition, we carried out only the minimum necessary work.
