Types of Exterior Wall Paint
Let me explain how many types of paint there are!
Paint can be broadly divided into organic and inorganic paints. First, let’s introduce the differences between these two types!
Differences Between Organic and Inorganic Paints
Organic paint contains resins such as acrylic, urethane, silicone, and fluorine, and these resins are primarily composed of organic substances containing carbon, such as petroleum. Since it contains resins, it has elasticity. This characteristic makes it less prone to cracking.
On the other hand, inorganic paint is generally a type of paint whose main components are inorganic substances such as ceramics and silicon. It protects against sunlight and ultraviolet rays, and it also has the characteristic of suppressing the deterioration of exterior walls.
Inorganic paint is a new type of paint that has emerged since around 2006 and boasts durability that exceeds that of fluorine-based paints.
Types of Paint
Paint can be roughly divided into six types. I will explain their main roles and performance!
1. Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paint has been a mainstream paint used for a long time, but compared to newer paints, its durability is very low, and it will need to be repainted soon. Therefore, it is rarely used for exterior walls these days.
It is an excellent choice for DIY projects like painting furniture when considering cost-effectiveness.
2. Urethane Paint
Urethane paint has a longer durability than acrylic paint, but overall, it still has a lower durability compared to other types of paint.
Although urethane paint has recently fallen out of favor for exterior walls, it may be suitable for auxiliary parts (like bands and rain gutters) that are not exterior walls. Since its durability is lower, care must be taken to avoid noticeable differences in deterioration compared to other materials!
3. Silicone Paint
Silicone paint is the most balanced type of paint! It offers excellent cost performance while also boasting a long lifespan, as well as outstanding heat resistance, water resistance, and weather resistance. Despite these qualities, it is also easy to clean dirt off the exterior walls, and its glossy finish is another reason for its popularity!
4. Fluorine Paint
Fluorine paint is made using fluorine resin derived from fluorite.
While it is somewhat more expensive, it possesses excellent weather resistance and durability. Additionally, fluorine paint is expected to have higher heat resistance against ultraviolet rays and sunlight compared to other paints!
Once applied, it does not require repainting for a long time, making it commonly used in large facilities or buildings where frequent renovations are not feasible.
Fluorine paint has a glossy finish, so if you prefer a matte finish, it may be better to consider other types of paint.
5. Photocatalytic Paint
Photocatalytic paint is a type of paint that cleans the exterior walls with rainwater. Photocatalysts react to sunlight to break down dirt, which is then washed away by rainwater. This is known as the self-cleaning function.
Photocatalysts utilize ultraviolet rays, which can cause deterioration of the paint film, allowing for long-term protection of your home. However, caution is needed as the effectiveness may diminish in buildings that do not receive much sunlight.
6. Inorganic Paint
Inorganic paint is characterized by its main components being inorganic materials like glass and stone, making it resistant to deterioration from ultraviolet rays. Additionally, premium inorganic paint has strong resistance to microbial contamination such as mold and moss, so it is recommended for use in buildings that do not receive much sunlight, as it helps maintain aesthetic appeal!
The lifespan is 20 to 25 years, which is longer compared to other types of paint!

Emphasis on Durability
1st Place: Premium Inorganic
Premium Inorganic is classified as an inorganic paint that achieves “super weather resistance.”
SK Premium Inorganic also has strong resistance to mold and algae.
The main features of SK Premium Inorganic are super weather resistance, super low pollution, and handling properties.
Super weather resistance is demonstrated through hybrid technology using inorganic super weather-resistant resins and radical control technology. Handling properties mean that, being a one-component type, it eliminates the tedious tasks of measuring, mixing, and stirring materials, providing stable performance (refer to SK Kaken website).
