Roof Urethane Waterproofing Work (Ventilated Buffer Method) Construction Steps

1. High-pressure Washing

First, we will clean everything thoroughly with high-pressure washing! If we apply paint over dirt, it will peel off quickly, so we wash away the dirt to improve adhesion. We will wash carefully as excessive pressure can damage the existing waterproof layer! We will move or lift any obstacles like outdoor units that may interfere with the waterproofing work. The joint tiles have been removed!

2. Substrate Adjustment

We will clean any dirt that could not be removed during washing. We will remove the expansion joints and apply new urethane sealing. We will apply cationic material over the entire area to enhance strength!

3. Installation of Ventilation Sheet and Joint Tape

After applying primer, we will lay the ventilation sheet over the entire flat area to prevent wrinkles and air pockets. We will apply joint tape seamlessly at the joints. The sheet used is AGC Polymer Building Materials/QV Sheet. By installing the ventilation sheet, we allow air rising from the building to escape outside, preventing the most common waterproofing issue: blistering.

4. Installation of Ventilation Pipe

This is a tube for exhausting water vapor that occurs between the waterproof layer and the substrate on the roof.
The vent pipe is securely fixed to prevent movement. The number of installations varies depending on the size.

5. Application of Urethane (First Layer)

Apply evenly.
Also, for vertical rises, a dedicated urethane waterproofing agent is used.

6. Application of Urethane (Second Layer)

Apply in the same manner as the first layer. Ensure a sufficient thickness of the membrane around the drains, vertical rises, and vent pipes.

7. Application of Top Coat

It serves to protect the urethane main agent. It protects against friction when walking and against dirt. The top coat is generally applied in two layers!
After finishing the application, check for any missed spots.

8. Completion of Rooftop Urethane Waterproofing Work

Completion will be when it dries! We’ll put everything back in place and finish up!

What is the Ventilation Buffer Method?

The Ventilation Buffer Method is the optimal technique for reducing the phenomenon of moisture forming and causing swelling inside the applied waterproofing material when performing waterproofing work on rooftops or balconies with an existing concrete substrate. It is also suitable for rooftops or balconies where leaks have already occurred!
If waterproofing work is done using the adhesion method instead of the Ventilation Buffer Method on a concrete substrate, the steam emitted from the concrete can cause swelling in the waterproof layer from the inside.

To prevent this swelling, the Ventilation Buffer Method uses essential ventilation performance ventilation buffer sheets and ventilation pipes, allowing water vapor to escape to the outside, enabling stable construction without swelling!
