Exterior Repair Work Construction Procedure
1. Existing Mortar Demolition
We will leave the areas that are not cracked.
2. Formwork Installation
This process is very important as it determines the shape of the mortar.
3. Application of Base Adjustment Agent (Adhesion Enhancer)
This serves to enhance the adhesion between the mortar and the substrate, as well as to penetrate the existing mortar to strengthen the substrate.
4. Mortar Filling
We will be careful to fill it in without creating gaps or air bubbles.
If gaps or air bubbles form, it will reduce strength and durability.
5. Leveling and Finishing
During this process, we will ensure it is finished flat.
6. Formwork Dismantling and Completion
Care must be taken during dismantling to avoid breaking it.
Finally, we will clean up.

What is Mortar?
Mortar is one of the materials widely used in current construction and civil engineering, made by mixing cement, sand, and water to create a building material.
Main Materials of Concrete
Cement
Cement is the main component that determines the strength of concrete. Typically, Portland cement is used. Cement reacts with water to undergo hydration, hardening and solidifying the mortar.
Water
Water is essential for triggering the hydration reaction of cement. If there is too much water, the mortar becomes weak, and if there is too little, it does not mix uniformly.
Sand (Fine Aggregate)
Fine aggregate, such as sand, is used as a filler in mortar, enhancing its density and strength.
Properties of Mortar
1. Hardening
Mortar hardens through a chemical reaction (hydration) with water, increasing in strength over time and solidifying like stone. It can harden both in air and underwater, making it usable indoors and outdoors. Care must be taken as it is prone to drying shrinkage during the hardening process.
2. Adhesiveness
It serves as an “adhesive” that firmly binds bricks, blocks, tiles, and more. The rougher the surface material, the easier it adheres, while smooth materials (like glass and metal) are harder to bond. Recently, “polymer cement mortar,” which includes resin, has become popular, exhibiting higher adhesiveness.
3. Strong in Compression, Weak in Tension and Bending
Mortar excels in compressive strength, making it effective in areas that bear weight. However, it is weak against tensile and bending forces, making it prone to cracking.
It is also not very resistant to expansion and contraction due to earthquakes or temperature changes, requiring appropriate measures.
4. Permeability and Shrinkage
Mortar is permeable to water, so it has poor waterproofing performance as is. When used on exterior walls or roofs, it must be finished with paint or waterproofing materials. Additionally, it has a property of shrinking during hardening and drying, which is a major cause of “cracking.” Special care is needed in areas prone to freeze-thaw cycles (frost damage).
