Roof Overlay Work Procedure
1. Dismantling Existing Ridge and Snow Guards
We will dismantle only the ridge flashing and snow guards that may obstruct the overlay work.
2. Laying Roofing (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing material used this time is modified asphalt. It is expected to have double the durability of asphalt roofing!
3. Custom Fabrication (Karakusa and Keraba)
We will process and install the keraba and karakusa.
4. Main Construction
Once the main roofing is installed, we will place the purlin at the ridge and wall edges. This time, we used cedar purlins, but there are also resin purlins that are resistant to corrosion.
5. Ridge Metal and Rain Guard Metal Fabrication
We will process and install the ridge metal and ventilation ridge. We will ensure that sealing is properly applied on the inside of the joints.
At the wall edges, we will process and install a component called rain guard metal.
6. Cleaning
We will remove footprints that inevitably occur and clean up any debris that has fallen around the house and in the rain gutters.
We strive to ensure that the area is cleaner after the work than it was before!
The construction is now complete!
The roofing material used is Aijii Industry’s Super Galtect.
Super Galtect comes with a manufacturer warranty of 15 years for the coating and 25 years for perforation.

Insulation material is tightly applied from edge to edge of the roofing material, creating a metal sheet that integrates the steel plate and insulation.
During installation, insulation is applied even to the parts where the roofing materials overlap, and the surface is coated with a high heat-reflective paint, allowing for a cool summer and warm winter.
Additionally, it has soundproofing properties, which reduce the sound of rain.
Moreover, it is lighter compared to other roofing materials, which reduces the sway during earthquakes, making it a good earthquake countermeasure.

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost as it is and placing a new roof on top of it.
Literally, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roofs are layered, it is also referred to as “layered roofing.”
Advantages of the Overlay Method
Since a “new roof” is placed over the “current roof,” demolition work is almost unnecessary, meaning that very little waste material is produced.
This is the biggest feature and leads to various advantages.
The only part that requires demolition and waste disposal is the ridge cap, so compared to a complete roof replacement, the cost is lower.
In 2004, regulations regarding the concentration of asbestos in raw materials were changed (for details, please visit the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website).
Some building materials used in structures built before 2004 contain asbestos. Asbestos-containing materials are difficult to demolish due to their high environmental impact, resulting in high costs for both demolition and waste disposal.
