Roof overlay (cover method) construction procedure
1. Removal of existing ridge cap and snow guards
We will dismantle only the ridge flashing and snow guards that obstruct the
2. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing material used is Nisshin Kogyo/Kappa 23!
It is made of modified asphalt roofing, which is said to have double the durability of regular asphalt roofing.
As a primary waterproofing measure, if the roofing is solid, there will be no leaks!
We will ensure it is firmly attached so it won’t blow away. [/chat]
3. Custom Fabrication (Karakusa and Keraba)
Before the main roofing work, we will process and install custom parts such as keraba and karakusa!
The custom parts used are specifically designed for Galtect and are made of the same material, SGL steel plate.
4. Main Construction (Aiji Industrial/Super Galtect)
After processing the
Once the installation reaches the ridge, we will install the necessary materials to secure the ridge cap called “kanban.” There are two types of kanban: cedar and resin, and this time we used the resin type!
The resin type is expected to have three times the durability compared to cedar!
5. Ridge Cap Processing & Sealing
We will process and install the ridge cap and ventilation ridge. We will firmly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.
The nails and screws used for fixing are made of rust-resistant stainless steel! [/chat]
6. Cleaning
We will clean up the debris that has fallen onto the balcony and rain gutters. We will thoroughly clean up nails and metal scraps to prevent injuries. [/chat]
About the Roofing Material Used
The roofing material used is Aiji Industrial’s Super Galtect.
Super Galtect comes with a manufacturer warranty of 15 years for the coating and 25 years for perforation.
Our company also provides a 10-year construction warranty!
Additionally, it is made of SGL steel plate, which is resistant to rust.
The insulation material is tightly applied from edge to edge of the roofing material, creating a metal plate that integrates the steel plate and insulation.
During installation, insulation is applied even to the parts where the roofing materials overlap, and the surface is coated with a highly heat-resistant paint, allowing for a cool summer and a warm winter.
Moreover, it has soundproofing properties, reducing the sound of rain.
Being lighter than other roofing materials, it also reduces the sway during earthquakes, providing earthquake resistance.

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost as it is and placing a new roof on top of it, effectively covering it.
Literally, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roof is laid on top of another, it is also referred to as “overlapping roofing.”
Benefits of the Roof Overlay Method
“Since a “new roof” is placed over the “current roof,” demolition work is almost unnecessary, meaning that very little waste is generated.
This is the biggest feature, leading to various benefits.
The only part that requires demolition and waste disposal is the ridge cap, so compared to re-roofing, the cost is lower.
In 2004, regulations regarding the concentration of asbestos in raw materials were changed (for more details, please see the website of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare below).
Building materials used in structures constructed before 2004 may contain asbestos. Asbestos-containing materials are difficult to demolish due to their high environmental impact, and the costs for demolition and waste disposal are also high. The roof overlay method, which generates almost no waste, is ideal for such roofs.
Some may wonder, “Is it safe to live in a building that uses asbestos-containing materials?” but rest assured. As long as there is no destruction or crushing, it will not disperse into the air.
