Details of the Eaves Board and Nose Cover Work
The eaves board and nose cover (the eaves board on the side with the rain gutter) play a crucial role in preventing wind from adversely affecting your home.
During strong winds, such as typhoons, rain can blow in horizontally, so the eaves board and nose cover disperse the wind, making it harder for rain carried by the wind to reach the junction between the roof and the exterior wall materials. This helps prevent rain from blowing in.
Typically, maintenance for eaves boards and nose covers (the eaves board on the side with the rain gutter) is done through “painting,” but when there is overall damage that cannot be repaired by painting, metal work is performed.
Eaves board metal work involves covering the eaves board with Galvalume steel sheets.
This is also referred to as metal wrapping work or covering work.
This time, since there was overall deterioration, we carried out metal covering work!
Procedure for Eaves Board Metal Covering Work
1. Removal of Existing Rain Gutter
Since the nose cover (the eaves board on the side with the rain gutter) requires the rain gutter to be detached, we will remove the existing rain gutter.
This time, we will remove it as we are replacing the eaves gutter!
2. Flat Sheet Metal Processing
We will measure the dimensions of each section and process the sheet metal into the shape of the eaves and fascia.
3. Nailing
We will attach the processed sheet metal and proceed with nailing! We will also apply caulking on the inside of the joints!
4. Caulking Treatment
We will perform caulking treatment.
5. Rain Gutter Installation
We will install the removed rain gutters.
This time, we will replace the eaves gutter with a new one!
6. Cleaning
Eaves Gutter Replacement Work Procedure
1. Existing Eaves Gutter Dismantling
We will remove the eaves gutter and brackets carefully to avoid damaging the fascia.
2. New Eaves Bracket Installation
We will install new eaves brackets. When installing the brackets, we will use kite string or chalk lines to ensure the proper slope for the rain gutter. The slope of the rain gutter is very important!
A point to note is that due to the fascia (where the eaves brackets were attached) or the building’s distortion, even if we set the slope with the brackets, it may cause backflow. It is crucial to check the slope with a level against the eaves before attaching the brackets!
3. Eaves Gutter Installation
We will be installing a new eaves gutter!
4. Connecting to the existing downspout
We will connect the existing downspout to the eaves gutter.
5. Water flow test, cleaning, and completion!
That’s all!
We used Panasonic PC50 for the eaves gutter.
Unlike Denka and Eslon rain gutters, it has a steel plate inside, providing greater strength.
