Hello!
I am Yamanaka from Kakeru Koumuten Co., Ltd., a specialist in roofing, exterior painting, and exterior renovations located in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture!
This is a case study of a roof renovation in Tsuzuki-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The work involved the removal of a solar water heater!
We have removed the unnecessary solar water heater!
Thank you very much for choosing Kakeru Koumuten Co., Ltd. from among many contractors.
Kakeru Koumuten has extensive experience in the removal of solar panels and water heaters!
Recently, we have seen a significant increase in customers wishing to remove their water heaters!
Steps for Removing the Solar Water Heater
1. Drain the water from the storage tank
Confirm that the water supply to the water heater is stopped, then drain the water that has accumulated in the tank!
We drain it slowly as it may put a load on the roof.
Be careful as hot water may come out.
2. Disassemble the solar water heater
Disassemble into the storage tank and collector.
After disassembly, lower each part one by one.
Always work with two or more people.
When disassembling, the panel may suddenly slip, so proceed carefully.
3. Lower the collector
Lower the collector (panel).
Support it with a rope and slide it down.
In some cases, we may use an electric winch for lifting.
In our case, we always have four or more people involved.
We lower it slowly while confirming the safety of the surroundings.
4. Lower the storage tank
Lower the storage tank.
Just like with the collector, support it with a rope and slide it down.

Carefully lower it while confirming safety, just like with the collector.
5. Remove pipes and hoses
Remove hoses that were connected to the storage tank.

6. Collect all wires and debris
That concludes the process.
There are various types of solar water heaters. With the current focus on renewable energy such as natural energy, solar water heaters are evolving, and more lightweight and durable products are becoming available.
However, solar water heaters are generally heavy, with most products weighing close to 100kg even when empty.
It is common for solar water heaters to have collectors that weigh over 60kg. If the solar water heater is filled with water, it is not uncommon for its weight to exceed 300kg.
This means that such weight is placed on the roof, putting a strain on it.
Moreover, while the solar water heater is still in use, it is manageable, but as it ages and becomes unused, the supporting equipment for the solar water heater deteriorates.
If the bolts or wires that secure the main body of the solar water heater deteriorate, it may not withstand disasters such as heavy rain or typhoons.
Since the water heater is basically secured only by wires, if the wires deteriorate and break, it will simply be sitting on the roof.
During Typhoon No. 19 in 2019, we saw a water heater fall from a roof onto a car….
Therefore, it is important to remove unused solar water heaters promptly!
Depending on the shape and slope of the roof, scaffolding may be necessary!
