This is a record of the roof ridge cap replacement work we completed in Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama.
The ridge cap is the metal covering that protects areas of the roof where roofing materials cannot be laid, such as at the peak of the roof.
It is susceptible to damage from wind and can also be a cause of leaks.
This time, we received a request for an inspection from a company in Tsurumi-ku and proposed the construction work!
Ridge Cap Replacement Procedure
1. Existing Ridge Dismantling
We will remove the old ridge cap and the wooden batten inside the ridge. Care is taken not to break the roofing materials during this process.
We recommend replacing the wooden batten inside every 10 to 15 years.
Once the ridge cap is removed, you will find the batten inside.
2. Metal Processing
The existing roofing material was not properly covering the ridge cap because the hook part was hitting the batten, so we trimmed the existing roofing material a bit and processed it with Galvalume steel plate!
3. New Batten Installation
We will install new purlins. This time, we used cedar purlins, but there are also purlins made of durable resin (Tough Mock, Eco Lumber) available.
3. Ridge Cap Joint Sealing
We will apply sealing on the inside of the overlaps to enhance strength and waterproofing.
4. New Ridge Cap Installation
We will process and install the ends and joints.
5. Cleaning
That’s all!
This time, the leak prevention work involved replacing the ridge cap!
The customer had allowed multiple door-to-door sales companies onto the roof, which clearly caused damage.
It’s not always the case that door-to-door sales companies are bad contractors, but hiring unknown or inexperienced contractors poses a high risk.
