Case Study of Ridge Tile Reinstallation Work

1. Existing Ridge Tile Dismantling and Protection Work

We will dismantle the existing ridge tiles. Here, the removed tiles can be reused if they are not cracked or damaged. The great thing about tiles is that they can be reused like this. This time, we did not find any significant deterioration, so we will carefully remove the tiles!

2. Masking Tape

We will remove the existing plaster and core wood. Next, we will apply masking tape to prevent the plaster from overflowing!

3. Installation of Ridge Core Material (Taruki)

After installing the ridge core material (core wood) to the reinforcing ridge hardware, we will connect them! The ridge core material comes in types such as cedar and resin, and this time we used resin rafters!

4. Application of Nanban Plaster

We will apply the Nanban plaster! We used Silguard for the Nanban plaster.

5. Installation of Ridge Tiles

After applying the plaster, we will return the existing ridge tiles! We will re-cover the ridge tiles in order, then fix the ridge tiles to the ridge core material with screws, and secure the ridge tiles with tile silicone, completing the re-stacking work!

Materials Used

The history of shikkui dates back about 5000 years and has been used around the world. It has been utilized for filling joints, adhering tiles and stones, and for wall finishing!

Shirugard is one type of Nanban shikkui. Nanban shikkui contains silicone and other materials to enhance waterproofing and strength. Therefore, it excels in durability and waterproofing!

Shirugard comes in two colors: white and black. There is no difference in performance, but the white option is more expensive. White is often used in visible areas, while black is commonly used in places covered by roofing materials.

It contains a special waterproofing material that reduces the waterproof rate. There are two colors available, including black!

Roof Painting Construction Procedure

1. Bio Cleaning

Through bio cleaning, we thoroughly remove dirt and moss from the roof! Unlike high-pressure washing that removes dirt with water pressure, bio cleaning involves mixing chemicals to clean bacteria, mold, and plants from the roots!

2. Primer Application

This is the first step of applying paint after completing high-pressure washing and substrate treatment. It is a primer that ensures that the middle and top coats adhere well to the surface. A well-applied primer significantly affects durability and finish quality!

3. Middle Coat

This is an important process to bring out the performance of the paint, achieve a beautiful finish, and eliminate unevenness in application!

4. Top Coat

This is the finishing of the exterior wall painting. We are conscious of ensuring that there are no uneven spots or missed areas, resulting in a beautiful finish! The paint used was Mizutani Paint’s water-based nano-silicone in Lot Orange.
The durability is said to be about 10 to 12 years, and it may vary depending on the environment.

Summary

Maintenance of the plaster is necessary to extend the lifespan of the tiles.

If the plaster deteriorates, it can lead to leaks throughout the house, so if it has been over 20 years, we recommend maintenance!
