Ridge Cap Replacement

This is the before-and-after of the ridge cap replacement work at Mr. T’s residence in Nakano-ku, Tokyo.

When we visited for the on-site inspection, we found that the ridge cap was peeling off.
It is believed to be damage caused by wind disasters such as typhoons.
We replaced the ridge cap and the wood batten.
Since fire insurance was applicable, we were able to carry out the rain gutter and ridge cap replacement work, and the customer was very satisfied!

The wooden parts inside the ridge cap (wood batten) were quite decayed.
If the wood batten inside the ridge cap decays, it can cause the ridge cap to detach and scatter in strong winds, which is very dangerous.
Additionally, the top part of the roof, known as the ridge, is not covered by roofing material, making it prone to leaks.
It is considered a critical point of the roof.
However, the decay of the wooden parts inside the ridge cap is difficult to notice since it is internal.
Therefore, we recommend replacement every 10 years.
The ridge cap is very prone to detachment, so if it comes off and is left unnoticed, it can accelerate the progression of decay.
Thus, we recommend annual maintenance.
