We are Kakeru Koumuten Co., Ltd., a specialist in roofing, exterior painting, and exterior renovations located in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture!
This is a case study of an exterior renovation project in Asahi-ku, Yokohama.
This time, the exterior renovation involves a roof overlay (cover method) project (Type 32 Standing Seam)!

The existing roofing material is a type of tile known as瓦U, which has already been discontinued and is no longer in production.
瓦U may contain harmful substances, including asbestos, in some cases.
The瓦U used in this project contains asbestos.

Roof Overlay Project Photos

1. Existing Roofing Material Demolition

We will dismantle and remove the existing roofing material. Since 瓦U contains asbestos, we will double-wrap it to prevent scattering before transporting it to the final disposal site in Chiba Prefecture.

2. New Sheathing Installation

After dismantling the existing roofing material, we will process and install new sheathing (structural plywood) according to the dimensions!

3. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet)

We used Jouyu Pulp Industry/Sunlight G for the roofing!
This material is a modified asphalt roofing, which is said to have double the durability of regular asphalt roofing.
With the roofing serving as the primary waterproofing, if it is properly installed, there will be no leaks! We will ensure it is firmly attached to prevent it from blowing away. [/chat]

4. Fabrication of Accessories (Karukusa)

Before the main roofing work, we will fabricate accessories called Karukusa!
The material used for the accessories is galvalume steel plate.

4. Main Construction (Sekino Kousan/Vertical Lock Type 32)

After the accessory fabrication, we will install the Vertical Lock Type 32 roofing! At the edges and ridges, we will raise the Vertical Lock Type 32 to enhance waterproofing. While the Vertical Lock has low insulation and soundproofing properties, this time we used an insulated version of the Vertical Lock!
There are two types of purlins: cedar and resin, and this time we used the resin type!
The resin type is expected to have three times the durability compared to the cedar type!

5. Rain Stop Processing

We will process and install a component called rain stop metal at the wall edge.
The nails and screws used for fixing are made of stainless steel, which is resistant to rust!

6. Cleaning

We will clean up any debris that has fallen onto the balcony or rain gutters. We will thoroughly remove items like nails and metal scraps that could cause injuries. Additionally, we will wipe away any footprints left on the roof to ensure it looks clean.

Roofing Materials Used

The roofing material used is Sekino Kousan’s Tatehira Lock 32 type.

For roof replacement and overlay, we provide a 10-year construction warranty!
If there are any leaks within 10 years, we will repair them free of charge.
The Galvalume steel sheet is also resistant to rust.
We pursue the basic functions of the roof, such as water drainage and strength, by applying ripples and ribs to the surface of the roofing material to enhance the strength of the roof surface and prevent the phenomenon of board noise.

For roofs with a slope of 2.5 shaku or less, please be sure to choose a vertical roofing type like Tatehira Lock 32! Horizontal roofing types like Colonial or Galtect are not permitted for construction!

Moreover, since it is a molded integrated type of vertical roofing that does not require hanging pieces or interlocking, it is composed of a single long metal sheet from the peak of the roof to the eaves, eliminating horizontal seams that could obstruct the flow of rainwater and provide opportunities for water to enter beneath the roofing material, thus minimizing the risk of leaks. It is recommended for houses with a gentle roof slope.
Additionally, it is the lightest among metal roofs, and by reducing the weight of the roof, it is possible to make the house more earthquake-resistant through roof replacement.
