This is a record of our work on the replacement of ridge flashing and eaves gutters (Panasonic/PC50) in Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture!

This is a roofing project for a steep slope!
In the case of a steep roof, we cannot proceed with the work without setting up a roof scaffold to serve as a handrail and a foothold.
We will also set up a roof scaffold for this project.
The ridge flashing is the metal covering that protects areas of the roof where roofing materials cannot be laid, such as at the peak of the roof.
It is susceptible to damage from wind disasters and can also be a cause of leaks.

Ridge Flashing Replacement Procedure
1. Existing Ridge Demolition
We will remove the old ridge flashing and the internal wooden batten. Care is taken not to break the roofing materials during this process.
We recommend replacing the internal wooden batten every 10 to 15 years.
Once the ridge flashing is removed, the internal batten will be visible.
2. Installation of New Purlins
We will install new purlins. This time, we used cedar purlins, but there are also purlins made of corrosion-resistant resin (Tough Mock, Eco Lumber).
3. Sealing of Ridge Cap Joints
We will apply sealing on the inside of the overlaps to enhance strength and waterproofing.
4. Installation of New Ridge Cap
We will process the ends and joints for installation.
5. Cleaning Up and Completion!
Procedure for Gutter Replacement Work
1. Dismantling Existing Eaves Gutter
We will remove the eaves gutter and brackets carefully to avoid damaging the fascia.
2. Installation of New Eaves Brackets
We will install new eaves brackets. When installing the brackets, we will use kite string or chalk lines to set the slope of the rain gutter, as the slope is crucial!
Please note that due to the fascia (where the eaves brackets were attached) or building distortion, even if we set the slope with the brackets, there may be backflow. It is important to check the slope with a level against the fascia before attaching the brackets!
3. Installation of Eaves Gutter
We will install the new eaves gutter!
4. Connecting to Existing Downspout
We will connect the existing downspout to the eaves gutter.
5. Water Flow Test, Clean Up, and Completion!
That concludes the process!
For the eaves gutter, we used Panasonic PC50.
Unlike Denka and Eslon rain gutters, it has a steel plate inside, providing strength.
You can choose from six colors: Milk White, Pearl Gray, Shincha, Black, Modern Beige, and Oak Brown.
This rain leak prevention work included ridge cap work and gutter replacement work!
