Ridge Cap Replacement Procedure
1. Existing Ridge Demolition
We will remove the old ridge cap and the internal wooden batten. Care will be taken not to break the roofing material during this process.
It is recommended to replace the internal wooden batten every 10 to 15 years.
Once the ridge cap is removed, you will find the internal batten.
2. Installation of new batten
We will install a new batten. This time, we used a cedar batten, but there are also batten options made of corrosion-resistant resin (Tough Mock, Eco Lumber).
3. Sealing the ridge cap joints
We will apply sealing to the inside of the overlaps to enhance strength and waterproofing.
4. Installation of new ridge cap
We will process the ends and joints for installation.
5. Clean up and completion!
Procedure for replacing eaves gutters
1. Dismantling existing eaves gutters
We will remove the eaves gutters and brackets carefully to avoid damaging the fascia.
2. Installation of new eaves brackets
We will install new eaves brackets. When installing the eaves brackets, we will use kite string or a chalk line to set the slope of the rain gutter. The slope of the rain gutter is very important!
One point to note is that due to the fascia (where the eaves brackets were attached) or the distortion of the building, even if you set the slope with the brackets, there may be backflow. It is important to check the slope with a level against the fascia before attaching the brackets!
3. Installation of the eaves gutter
We will install the new eaves gutter!
4. Connection to existing vertical gutter
We will connect the existing vertical gutter to the eaves gutter.
5. Water flow test, cleaning, and completion!
Slate Replacement Work Procedure
1. Removal of existing roofing material
We will pull out the nails of the damaged roofing material using specialized tools.
2. Caulking treatment
Before inserting the new roofing material, we will apply caulking material after removing the damaged roofing material.
3. Installation of new roofing material
We will insert the new roofing material, and once the caulking material has dried, the work is complete.
