[Asahi-ku, Yokohama] Handmade Merry-Go-Round Production! We collaborated to create it for the Hope Hill High School Cultural Festival!

This time, we collaborated with students at Kanagawa Prefectural Kibogaoka High School in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, to
create a human-powered merry-go-round for their school festival (cultural festival)!

This was our first collaboration on a project at Kibogaoka High School, and we successfully completed it!

Human-Powered Merry-Go-Round

Since you requested a similar structure to the human-powered merry-go-round we created together previously,
we started working on the human-powered merry-go-round just like last year!

The production took 2 days, and we spent those 2 days working on-site!

Human-Powered Merry-Go-Round Production Process

Materials Used

・Steel pipes

・Rolling casters

・Pipe clamps

・Boards (for seats)

・Screws

・Wheels, etc.

 

Material Transportation

First, we greeted the students and started transporting the materials!

Merry-Go-Round Base

Next, we began building the base! This time, it will be an outdoor merry-go-round!
We attached casters to the base, fixing four on each side to allow it to rotate!

We will proceed together with the students by connecting pipes and using hammers to balance things out. Everyone worked as if they were experienced with tools, despite it being their first time!
I was very happy to see the students actively participating!

Merry-Go-Round Main Body

Once the base was completed, we started working on the main body! We adjusted the length, reinforced it, and installed the wheels, and thanks to everyone’s cooperation, we were able to complete the installation of the seats by the end of the first day!

Merry-Go-Round Decoration (Seats)

Since the seats are where people will sit, we secure them firmly and reinforce them carefully to prevent breakage from movement!

We were able to do a trial run on the first day, and it was great to see the students enjoying themselves.
The merry-go-round rotated smoothly without any issues, which was a relief!

Human-Powered Merry-Go-Round Completion

Finally, we have completed the Human-Powered Merry-Go-Round!

It was able to operate smoothly even with two people riding it!

It seems that the event was a great success, and we ranked third overall in the class competition! I’m so glad!!

That concludes our joint production of the human-powered merry-go-round with the students of Kanagawa Prefectural Kibogaoka High School!

I am very pleased that we were able to collaborate with a school in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, which is close to our company.
This request started two years ago, and since last year, we have received many inquiries and consultations from students around the time of the school festival.
Unfortunately, due to timing and various circumstances, there were some who could not collaborate, but we would like to support the students’ wishes as much as possible.

This year, I was also happy to hear from those who watched the video of our human-powered merry-go-round production from last year and thought, “We want to make one too!”
Collaborating with students to create something for the school festival is quite rare, and it has been a valuable experience for our company.
We hope to continue providing wonderful memories through such events as much as possible in the future!
