Roof Overlay Construction Procedure
1. Demolition of Existing Ridge and Snow Guards
We will only dismantle the ridge flashing and snow guards that would obstruct the overlay work.
The hole in the photo is where the ventilation ridge was installed.
2. Laying Roofing (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing used this time is modified asphalt. It offers double the durability of standard asphalt roofing!
3. Fabrication of Accessories (Karakusa, Eaves, Valley)
We will process and install the eaves, karakusa, and valley flashing.
4. Main Construction
Once the main roofing is laid, we will install the purlins at the ridge and wall edges. This time, we used cedar purlins, but there are also resin purlins that are resistant to corrosion.
6. Fabrication of Ridge Flashing and Rain Diverter Flashing
We will process and install the ridge cap and ventilation ridge. We will firmly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.
6. Cleaning
We will remove footprints that inevitably appear and clean up any debris that has fallen around the house and in the rain gutters.
We strive to leave the site cleaner after the work than it was before!

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost as it is and placing a new roof on top of it, effectively covering it.
Literally, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roof is laid over the existing one, it is also referred to as “overlapping roofing.”
Advantages of the Overlay Method
By placing a “new roof” over the “current roof,” there is almost no need for demolition work, meaning very little waste material is produced.
This is its most significant feature, leading to various advantages.
The only part that requires demolition and waste disposal is the ridge cap, so compared to a complete roof replacement, the cost is lower.
