The work involved a roof overlay (cover method) project (Ridgeway)!

Roof Overlay Project Procedure
1. Existing Roof Demolition
We will begin by demolishing the existing roof.
2. New Sheathing Installation
After demolishing the roof, we will process and install new sheathing according to the dimensions.
3. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet)
The roofing used this time is modified asphalt. It is expected to have double the durability of traditional asphalt roofing!
4. Component Processing (Curlicue and Eaves)
We will process and install the curlicue and eaves.
5. Main Construction
Once the main body is finished, we will install the ridge board. There are also resin ridge boards, which are resistant to corrosion. (Toughmock, Ecolumber, etc.) This time, we used Toughmock!
6. Ridge Metal Processing
We will process and install the ridge metal. We will thoroughly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.
7. Cleaning
We will remove any debris that has fallen around the house and inside the rain gutters, and we will wipe clean the area.
We strive to ensure that the area looks cleaner after the work than before!
With that, the construction is complete!
About the Roofing Material
The roofing material used is Ridgeway from Asahi Fiberglass.
Ridgeway comes with a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
Since it uses natural stone that is baked and painted on the surface, it is a roofing material that does not require painting, which helps reduce maintenance costs!
Additionally, because it uses fine natural stone on the surface, you won’t be troubled by rain noise.
Moreover, it is a lightweight roofing material, making it strong against earthquakes and providing seismic resistance.

What is the Roof Overlay (Cover Method)?
The roof overlay method involves leaving the current roof almost as it is and placing a new roof on top of it, effectively covering it.
Literally, it is a method of covering a roof with another roof. Therefore, the roof becomes double-layered. Since the roof is laid over, it is also referred to as “overlapping roofing.”
Advantages of the Overlay Method
Since a “new roof” is placed over the “current roof,” demolition work is almost unnecessary, meaning that very little waste is produced.
This is its most significant feature, leading to various advantages.
The only part that requires demolition and waste disposal is the ridge cap, making it more cost-effective compared to complete roof replacement.
In 2004, regulations regarding the concentration of asbestos in raw materials were changed (for more details, please refer to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website).
Some building materials used in structures built before 2004 contain asbestos. Asbestos-containing materials are challenging to demolish due to their high environmental impact, and the costs for demolition and waste disposal are also high. The overlay method, which produces almost no waste, is ideal for such roofs.
Some may wonder, “Is it safe to live in a building that uses asbestos-containing materials?” but rest assured. As long as there is no destruction or crushing, it will not disperse into the air.

Additionally, the construction can be completed in a shorter timeframe compared to painting or complete roof replacement. A shorter construction period means lower labor costs, which in turn makes the overall cost more affordable.
