Background to the Construction

We received an inquiry from a customer living in Hakone, Ashigarakami District, saying, “The building itself is getting old, and I am concerned about the deterioration of the roof, so I would like to repair it with durable roofing materials!”

Roof Sheathing Overlay Construction Procedure

1. Existing Ridge Removal and Partial Rafter Reinforcement

First, we will dismantle unnecessary parts (ridge flashing) for the overlay method!

The durability of wooden purlins is about 10 to 15 years. Once the durability period is exceeded, corrosion and discoloration occur, leading to the detachment and scattering of the ridge flashing.

This time, we only replaced the areas of the underlying rafters that had holes or were corroded!

2. New Roof Sheathing Installation

This time, we will be performing overlay work after installing the roof sheathing (structural plywood). After dismantling the existing roofing materials, we will process and install new roof sheathing to fit the dimensions!

3. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet)

Next, we will apply the waterproof sheet! The roofing material used is Tajima Roofing Co., Ltd. / New Liner Roofing. It is made of modified asphalt roofing, which is said to have twice the durability of regular asphalt roofing.

As a first line of defense against water, if the roofing is properly installed, there will be no leaks. We will secure it firmly to prevent it from blowing away.

Since there are various durability ratings and characteristics for roofing sheets, it is important to choose a roofing sheet that matches the durability of the new roof and the roof slope!

4. Accessory Processing (Karakusa and Keraba)

Before the main roofing work, we will process and install accessories such as Karakusa and Keraba. The materials used for these accessories are SGL steel plates!

The metal fittings at the ridge are our original integrated waste board ridge base. It has a durability of about 30 years and is a ridge base with high wind resistance.

5. Main Construction (Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top)

After processing the accessories, we will install the Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top roofing material up to the ridge!

Once the roofing is completed up to the ridge, we will install the necessary materials to secure the ridge flashing, known as the kanban. We offer three types of kanban: cedar, resin, and galvalume steel, and this time we used the resin type!

The resin type is expected to have twice the durability of the cedar type. We also recommend choosing materials with durability ratings close to those of the new roofing materials.

Our original integrated waste board made of Galvalume steel for the ridge base is,
highly durable, has strong fixation, and excellent wind resistance!
Even if rainwater seeps in from the ridge, it has a mechanism to discharge rainwater to the outside, ensuring
high waterproof performance!

6. Ridge Cap Processing and Sealing

We will process and install the ridge cap. To enhance waterproofing, we will install a face plate on the inside of the ridge! We will thoroughly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.

The screws used for fixation are stainless steel with waterproof packing that is resistant to rust!

Unlike nails, screws with packing are less likely to come loose,
firmly securing the ridge cap to the purlin!

Although it is not visible after construction,
installing a face plate on the inside of the ridge cap
enhances waterproofing!
It firmly protects the ridge, which is a critical point of the roof.

8. Cleaning

After the roof construction, we will clean up any debris that has fallen onto the balcony or rain gutters. We will thoroughly remove nails and metal scraps, as they can lead to injuries.

Additionally, we will wipe away any footprints left on the roof to keep it clean.

Underfloor Concealment Construction Procedure

1. Existing Concealment Demolition

We will dismantle the existing old privacy screen. During the dismantling process, we will carefully remove the existing structure to ensure nothing remains.

2. Foundation Construction for Privacy Screen

Next, we will proceed with the foundation construction for the privacy screen. The existing structure only had vertical foundations on the concrete part of the building’s foundation, but this time we added a new vertical foundation in the center of the concrete foundation to enhance the strength and performance of the privacy screen.

3. Main Construction of Privacy Screen

Next, we will carry out the main construction of the privacy screen. By changing the vertical foundations from two to three in the privacy screen’s foundation, we were able to improve both the aesthetic appearance and the strength of the structure.

4. Painting of Privacy Screen

Next, we will proceed with the painting of the privacy screen. If painting is not done, deterioration will occur quickly, so we applied preservatives and carried out the work.

5. Completion

Through the above process, the installation of the privacy screen is completed.
With the privacy screen in place, the appearance has been beautifully finished.

About Roofing Materials

The roofing material used is Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top.

Dan Netsu Top is made of Galvalume steel, which offers excellent durability and comes with a manufacturer’s coating warranty! It includes a 15-year coating warranty and a 25-year hole warranty!

While it looks very similar to Hirambi, Dan Netsu Top comes with polyethylene foam insulation as a standard feature, not as an option! Additionally, we provide a 10-year workmanship warranty!

The color for this project was Black Pearl, and the cover work turned out exceptionally well!
