Exterior Painting in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture | Construction Procedure

1. High-pressure Washing

First, we thoroughly wash the exterior walls with high-pressure washing to remove dirt and moss! If dirt remains, it can affect the adhesion and durability of the paint, so we wash carefully.

2. Substrate Adjustment

Once the high-pressure washing is complete, we will perform substrate adjustments such as crack repairs while checking the condition of the exterior walls!

3. Protection of Various Areas

Next, we will protect areas that will not be painted, such as windows, sashes, and floors, using masking tape and other materials. This is a very important task in the painting process! If protection is neglected, gaps may form, allowing paint to seep in or resulting in uneven lines.

4. Intermediate Coating

This is a very important process to ensure the paint performs well, finishes beautifully, and eliminates uneven application!

This time, we will be using a clear coating, so unlike regular exterior wall painting, we will only apply the finishing paint twice without an undercoat process.

5. Top Coating

Next is the top coat. This will be the finishing touch for the exterior wall painting. We will ensure that there are no uneven spots or missed areas, aiming for a beautiful finish! The paint used is Kikusuikagaku’s Royal Ceraclear. Royal Ceraclear is a clear paint compatible with photocatalytic siding (anti-adhesion siding).

6. Painting of Auxiliary Parts (Eaves, Rain Gutters, Fascia, Shutter Boxes, Slim Ducts)

After completing the surface preparation such as scraping, the auxiliary parts will be finished with a primer and top coat!

Eaves

eaves are less exposed to sunlight and therefore less prone to deterioration, but due to the lack of sunlight, they tend to be more susceptible to moss and mold. For this reason, we use Ken Ace from Nippon Paint, which has high mold resistance and moisture permeability.

For the auxiliary parts, after finishing the surface preparation such as scraping, for iron parts, we apply an anti-rust primer, followed by a mid-coat and top-coat using Rock Paint’s Yumelock. We ensure to paint every detail thoroughly!

Joint Replacement | Construction Steps

1. Removal of Existing Sealing Material

We will remove the existing sealing material using a cutter or similar tool. This is referred to as sealing, caulking, or jointing. It is a critical area that can easily lead to water leaks and can also cause cracking or lifting of the siding. Cracks and peeling are signs of deterioration!

2. Application of Masking Tape

Check the position where the tape will be applied and carefully stick it on, ensuring it does not dig into the surface.

3. Application of Primer

Apply the primer with a brush or similar tool, ensuring there are no missed spots. The primer used is high-performance urethane primer from Auto Chemical Industry.

4. Filling the Sealing Material

Next, we will apply the sealing. The sealing material used this time is Auto Chemical Industry’s Auton Exceed. Auton Exceed has a durability of about 30 years, making it an ultra-high durability sealing material. It offers nearly three times the durability of urethane and silicone-based materials!!

※Note:Since Auton Exceed takes time to cure, if you plan to paint the exterior walls after the sealing work, you must allow several days for curing.

5. Finishing with a Trowel

Use a trowel that matches the joint width to press firmly and finish smoothly.

6. Removal of Masking Tape

After finishing, promptly remove the masking tape.

That concludes the process.

Normally, exterior wall painting is done after replacing the joints, but in the case of Kikusui Chemical Industry’s Royal Seraclear, it isnot allowed to apply on the replaced joints, so we replaced the joints after painting. The process varies depending on the materials, and knowledge is essential!

If the exterior wall is siding, it is often the case that joint replacement and exterior wall painting are done together, so caution is necessary!
