The ridge cap is the metal covering that protects areas of the roof where roofing materials cannot be laid, such as the peak of the roof.
It is susceptible to damage from wind and can cause leaks.
Ridge Cap Replacement Procedure
1. Existing Ridge Demolition
We will remove the old ridge cap and the wooden batten inside the ridge. Care must be taken not to break the roofing materials during this process.
This time, it was quite corroded.
We recommend replacing the wooden batten inside every 10 to 15 years.
Once the ridge cap is removed, there is a batten inside.
2. New Batten Installation
We will install a new purlin. This time, we used a cedar purlin, but there are also purlins made of durable resin (Tough Mock, Eco Lumber) available.
3. Ridge Cap Joint Sealing
We will apply sealing on the inside of the overlaps to enhance strength and waterproofing.
4. New Ridge Cap Installation
We will process and install the ends and joints.
5. Clean Up and Finish!
Rain Gutter Replacement Construction Procedure
1. Existing Eaves Gutter Dismantling
We will remove the eaves gutter and brackets carefully to avoid damaging the fascia.
2. New Eaves Bracket Installation
We will install new eaves brackets. When installing the brackets, we will use kite string or chalk lines to set the slope of the rain gutter, as the slope is crucial!
It is important to note that due to the fascia (where the eaves brackets were attached) or building distortion, even if the slope is set with brackets, there may be backflow. It is essential to check the slope with a level against the fascia before attaching the brackets!
3. Eaves Gutter Installation
We will install the new eaves gutter!
4. Connection to Downspout
We connect the vertical gutter and the eaves gutter.
5. Water flow test, cleaning, and completion!
That’s all!
For the eaves gutter, we used the Panasonic PC50.
Unlike Denka and Eslon rain gutters, it has a steel plate inside, providing strength.
