Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture | Construction Data

約2週間 About 10 days Completion Month April 2025 Background to the Construction We received an inquiry from a customer living in Miura City stating, “In my seaside house, part of the roof was blown off due to strong winds. I would like to repair it with cost-effective and wind-resistant roofing materials!”

Since the customer mentioned they wanted it to last for 15 years, we proposed using modified asphalt for the roofing sheet, focusing on cost performance!

Roof Overlay (Cover Method) Construction Procedure

1. Existing Ridge Demolition and Partial Rafter Reinforcement

First, we will dismantle unnecessary areas (ridge cap) for the cover method!

The durability of wooden purlins is about 10 to 15 years. Once the durability period is exceeded, corrosion and discoloration occur, leading to the detachment and scattering of the ridge cap.

At this time, we only replaced the areas of the underlying rafters that had holes or corrosion!

2. New Sheathing Installation

This time, we will be covering after adding new sheathing (structural plywood). We will process and install the new sheathing according to the dimensions!

3. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet)

Next, we will apply the waterproof sheet! The roofing material used is Jouyu Pulp Industry / Sunlight G. This is a modified asphalt roofing material, which is said to have twice the durability of regular asphalt roofing.

As a first line of defense against water, if the roofing is properly installed, there will be no leaks. We will ensure it is firmly attached to prevent it from blowing away.

Since there are various durability levels and characteristics of roofing sheets, it is important to choose a roofing sheet that matches the durability requirements and roof slope of the new roof!

4. Fabrication of Accessories (Karakusa and Keraba)

Before the main roofing work, we will fabricate and install accessories such as karakusa and keraba. The material used for these accessories is SGL steel plate!

The metal fittings at the ridge will be our original integrated waste board type ridge base. It has a durability of approximately 30 years and offers high wind resistance.

5. Main Construction (Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top)

After the accessory fabrication, we will install the Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top roofing material up to the ridge!

Once we have installed the roofing up to the ridge, we will place the necessary materials called “kanbari” to secure the ridge flashing. We offer three types of kanbari: cedar, resin, and galvalume steel, and this time we used resin!

The resin type is expected to have twice the durability of the cedar type. We also recommend choosing materials with durability levels close to those of the new roofing materials.

Our original integrated waste board type ridge base made of galvalume steel is,
highly durable, with strong fixation and excellent wind resistance!
Even if rainwater enters from the ridge, it has a mechanism to discharge rainwater to the outside, demonstrating
high waterproofing performance
!

6. Processing of Ridge Flashing and Sealing at Various Locations

We will process and install the ridge cap. To enhance waterproofing, we will install a face plate on the inside of the ridge! We will firmly apply sealing on the inside of the joints.

The screws used for fixing are made of rust-resistant stainless steel with waterproof packing! [/chat]

Unlike nails, screws with packing are less likely to come loose
and securely fix the ridge cap to the purlin!

Although it is not visible after construction,
installing a face plate on the inside of the ridge cap
enhances waterproofing!
It firmly protects the ridge, which is a critical part of the roof.

8. Cleaning

After the roofing work is completed, we will clean up any debris that has fallen onto the balcony or rain gutters. We will thoroughly remove nails and metal scraps, as they can cause injuries.

We will also wipe away any footprints left on the roof to keep it clean.[/chat]

Lower Roof Sheathing Overlay Construction & Eaves Ceiling Replacement Construction Procedure

1. Removal of Existing Eaves Ceiling

First, we will check the existing condition. We will remove any severely deteriorated areas or parts that may obstruct the installation of new eaves materials.

2. Substructure Carpentry

Next, we will check the condition of the underlayment. If the underlayment has already rotted, it will need to be replaced, so caution is necessary. In this case, in addition to the rotting of the underlayment, part of it was blown away by strong winds, so we reinforced the rafters!

3. New Sheathing Installation

After dismantling the existing roofing materials, we will process and install new sheathing to fit the dimensions!

4. Roofing Installation (Waterproof Sheet) & Component Processing (Decorative Elements & Eaves)

Next, we will apply the waterproof sheet! The roofing material used is Jouyu Pulp Industry / Sunlight G.

5. Main Construction (Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top)

Next, we will install the Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top roofing material

6. Calcium Silicate Board Processing

We will proceed with the installation of the eaves material

. When carrying out renovation work like this, we first check the location of the base and then secure it with screws

.

7. Eaves Material Attachment

We will measure the quantity of the construction area

. In the case of partial repairs like this, we will conduct measurements and process the eaves material on-site

.

8. Sealing Treatment

We will perform sealing treatment at the ends, and that will complete the work!

About the Roofing Material

The roofing material used is Sekino Kousan / Dan Netsu Top.

Dan Netsu Top is made of Galvalume steel, which offers excellent durability and comes with a manufacturer’s coating warranty! It includes a 15-year coating warranty and a 25-year hole warranty!

Although it looks very similar to Hiranbi, Dan Netsu Top comes with polyethylene foam insulation as a standard feature, not as an option! Additionally, we provide a 10-year construction warranty as well!

The color for this project was dark brown, and the cover work turned out exceptionally well!
The customer was very satisfied, and I was also very happy!
Thank you very much!
